On Thursday 7 June 2011, Panthers class visited Colchester Zoo thanks to the 'Happy Days' charity.
It was sunny but windy when we set off with a forecast that threatened rain. Nevertheless, Panthers class was very excited to be going to the zoo to see and find out about Rainforest animals and plants.
We saw loads of monkeys: Spider-Monkeys, Chimps, Mangabey and Squirrel-Monkeys. Some of them were clearly used to having an audience as they posed for the cameras. Some Mums were carrying their babies around. We really loved being in amongst the plants and trees listening to the sounds of the monkeys chattering!
After seeing the tigers up close, we stopped for our picnic lunch. Just at the end of lunch, it started to rain, so we went inside to see the leaf-cutter ants. They were fascinating as they travelled along ropes and tubes collecting leaves and carrying them on their backs to their nest.
On our way back up the hill, we saw elephants, rhinos, giraffes, meerkats, flamingoes, ant-eaters and snakes (not all rainforest animals, we know, but good to see nevertheless).
To finish our day, we had ice-creams courtesy of Joey's Mum.
So, a very big thank you from S1 Panthers class to 'Happy Days' and to Joey's Mum!
